2018 September FOAN News KIDS OR
riends of African Nursing (FoAN) is delighted to announce an arrangement to collaborate with Kids OR. Kids OR is a Scottish charity generously funded by the Wood Foundation, who are refurbishing and re-equipping paediatric operating theatres all over the African continent. The role of FoAN is to follow the installation of the beautiful new theatres (see image of before and after) with education for the nurses in the theatre team and other members of the surgical team as appropriate. We have planned a programme which will provide a theory update and some practical sessions based in the re-furbished theatres, focussed on the new equipment. Dot Chadwick, Trustee and Kate Woodhead Chair of Trustees will travel to Kigali, Rwanda at the end of this week to deliver a week of training. We will be scoping the programme, ensuring it can be delivered in many different hospitals in a wide variety of countries in Africa over the next year. We are excited to be undertaking the collaboration and expect to be involved in at least ten installations over the next twelve months. Many perioperative colleagues from UK, Ireland and Canada will be joining us to help to deliver the programme. We welcome their support.
